If there's one sport where inches count, it's golf. Golf is an easy sport to learn, but it takes a lifetime to master.
Most people who try golf for the first time are addicted to progress. It's a game where you try to improve every dayimprove your score.
Unlike other sports where you compete head-to-head with other players, golf is a little different. The only player you need to focus on is yourself!
This is because the other competitors have no control over whether you end up being alow or high score.
In this article I'm going to explain exactly what it means to have a good and a bad score in golf.
What is the average golf score? An average golf score is 90 strokes for every 18 holes played. This score is for an amateur golfer playing a par 72 course. A good golf score is 108 strokes or less, a poor score is 120 strokes or more.
Because golf is such a complex sport, there are many levels of difficulty.
You have the pros, once-a-year golfers, and lots of variations in between. What is a good score for an amateur player is very different for a professional.
Remember that it's important not to compare your scores with other players. It probably took many years of practice to get the results you're getting now.

What is the average score for 18 holes
When it comes to golf courses, they come into play.2 different sizes. They have a full size 18 hole golf course and a shorter 9 hole course.
Professional and advanced golfers always play on an 18-hole course. Each round on an 18-hole course extends a greater distance. The additional fairway allows golfers tohit some long shots, and while they really test your skills.
The average score a golfer gets after 18 holes is 90 putts. This means that the ball takes a total of 90 touches to complete the full 18 rounds. This number averages 5 strokes per hole.
What is the average score for 9 holes
Sometimes you just want to play a quick round of 9 holes.Par 3 golf coursesare perfect for a quick game of golf. I think 9 Holes is the perfect action-packed golf game that leaves you wanting more.
Many amateurs and beginners will play their first round of golf on a par 3 course. These courses contain 9 holes and are much shorter than a full 18 hole course. This means that each hole takes a maximum of 3 strokes to reach par.
At least 2 of the holes on a 9-hole course offer a hole-in-one opportunity. All golfers hope to hit a hole in one; especially beginners.
Golf can be a challenge for beginners and they tend to get excited when they come across a par 3 hole. That's because, for the amateur, making a hole in one is a chance to feel like a great golfer!
What is a good golf score?
A good golf score is anything under 120 strokes. This value is above average, but we are only talking about a respectable result here.
For example, if you pick up a set of golf clubs for the first time tomorrow, a score of 120 would be pretty good. As you continue to work on your golf game, it won't be long before you improve and reach the average score of 90.
120 or less means you score no more than 30% more than the average golfer.
What is a Bad Golf Score?
I would say a poor golf score is anything in the 121+ range. Remember, if you're at this level now, there's nothing to be ashamed of. It just means you have some extra work to do.
A score of 121 means you are making at least 30% more strokes than the average player (90 strokes) on an 18-hole course. I believe this skill falls into the "poor golf score" range.
Average golf score (by age)
Your overall golf score depends on many factors. your age, experience, etc.inabilitymay affect your expected average.
To alter average score(18 holes) 7-10 years 144-180 10-20 years 89-180 20-30 years 89-90 30-40 years 91-92 40-50 years 91-92 50-60 years 91 60-70 years 91 <70 93-94
As you can see from the table above, children who play golf are clearly at a disadvantage.Children average 144 to 180 strokes per 18 holes. This equates to an average of 8 to 10 strokes per hole, 5 strokes more than an adult golfer.
This is evident as children lack the strength and coordination skills that golf requires.
As a golfer ages, the average swing difference is minimal. The difference between a 20 year old golfer and a 70 year old golfer is only 4 strokes per game.
Because of this, you see a lot of older men and women playing golf on Pro Circuit. Experience and skill are undoubtedly the most important qualities of a good golfer.
While it is true that older professional players can compete at the same level as younger players, it is still important for them to start playing golf at an early age.
It can take years of practice to excel at golf. You need to learn the correct habits and playing techniques to play at a professional level.
Capture everything you needbecome an excellent golferit's so much easier when you're young. That's because your brain is more malleable when you're young. Your neurons fire much faster, while neural pathways form faster.
If you don't want to be the next Tiger Woods, don't let that put you off. I believe that golf is one of the best sports at any age!
Golf not only keeps the body in shape, it also sharpens the mind. Solving problems and calculating external environmental factors is part of the fun of golf!
Constant progress is the key
If I can single out one key point in this article, it would have to be progress. While it's human nature to want to run before you can run, it won't do you any good when it comes to golf.
Don't compare yourself to other playerss who may have played golf longer than you. Don't even compare your scores with that annoying friend who learns any sport and does well quickly.
While it is helpful to know and understand the average results I discussed with you, please use them only as a guide.
Many golfers tend to focus on par. This is a completely wrong approach that will disappoint you every time. Instead, play your regular game and assess your score at the end of the 18 holes.
For example, if a course has a total par of 72, that means you need an average of 5 strokes per hole to make par. But remember, if you are a beginner, this is a completely unrealistic result!
What does "over par" mean in golf?
A good score for a beginner is a bogey on each hole! This is also known as an over par score.
In the case of a par 72 course, this means that you need 6 shots to hit each hole. That would be a total of 108 strokes for a standard 18-hole course.
108 is a long way from the 90 needed to reach par, but it shows promise.
Bogeying every hole might not seem like an outcome to celebrate, but it actually shows that you have the potential to be a great golfer!
It's true that nobody likes to score a bogey. Bogey tags a golfer who screams "you piece of shit".
At least that's how most golfers think about bogeys. However, please bear in mind what I said. All you have to do to improve is focus on realistic results and progress.
What does par mean in golf
Once you've mastered bogey scoring, you can move on to the next level. This means that you try to complete each hole in just 1 stroke less than before. If you hit 5 shots instead of 6, you reach the "golf score" level.
One tip is to always focus on a hole. Go even deeper and calculate exactly how to get that one less shot on each hole.
Reaching par is a great achievement. When you hit par, pat yourself on the back for a good performance. However, most golfers are not happy with a par at all. Making a par is simply a relief and creates a sense of neutrality.
What does under par mean in golf?
What every golfer really wants is to score no worse than a birdie! A birdie is scored when you hit 1 shot short of the even number on that particular hole.
It is even more impressive when a golfer manages to score 1 under par. This includes an average of one birdie on each hole. This takes many years of practice and is not expected in the first 5 years after you start golfing.
Diploma
I understand that as a golfer you want to be the best player you can be. In my experience this is possible if you have realistic expectations.
As you can see now, the average score is just an approximate number that depends on many factors. Your age, experience level and handicap will affect the averages. It's important to understand your current situation and match it to the expectations I've outlined here.
If you feel like you've lost your golf swing and your confidence, I can help. I wrote another article to help youGet your golf swing back.
While the average golf score is 90 for 18 holes, you may need to work towards this if you are a beginner.
If you play golf regularly for 6 to 12 months, your results should be better. If you have some time on your side, you should be at par or 1 under par after 12 months of regular play.
Whatever your score, the key is to have fun on the green. They like to make small, steady advances. This is done by focusing on one hole at a time!
